Accepting God’s grace though self-hate

Before you read let me give you some background. I have been struggling with self-hate for 10 or 11 months and I finally had enough of it about a week ago. So a couple of nights ago I was praying before I went to bed and just thanking God. When this monologue for my drama audition started forming in my head and I believe it is God breathed. I pray that reading it helps you.

*So a lot of people ask where did these scars come from. Okay so not a lot of people ask that, actually no ones asked that and the one person who has seen them didn’t ask cause she knew where they come from.

But if you did ask I would tell you that their battle scars. That they are proof that God’s not done with me yet. That no matter how hard life gets or how much you hate yourself God’s grace is still there.

And when you get to the point where you’re just done, you can take a deep breath and just say God I’m done with this and I want to live my life glorify You and leading others to You. And I can’t do that hating myself.

And then you can just accept God’s grace. And live your life glorify Him the best you can, with His help of course.*

I know that this isn’t how it happens for everyone, but it’s how it happened me. I could have just stayed in the cycle of self-hate but I knew I could ever lead others to Christ if I didn’t accept his grace for myself.

I told my closest and most trusted friend what I did and why. After that I’ve been trying to focus on leading others to Christ and not hating myself for what I did.

God doesn’t want us to run a plan by him to see if he will bless it, he wants to guide us

Alot of times we get ideas about who God is by watching and listening to others, which isn’t bad but we have to remember to compare it to the Bible to see if it is true.

One of the things I noticed by listening to others pray is that some people believe that God wants us to run our plan by him to see if he will bless it.

But He wants to guide us not bless our plans.

Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
Isaiah 30:21 NASB

Make me know Your ways, O Lord ; Teach me Your paths.
Psalms 25:4 NASB

Worship is bringing glory to God, not just singing on Sunday

I know that for a long time I thought about worship wrong. I thought singing worship songs was the only way.

But I was wrong, worship doesn’t mean to sing to God, worship is bringing glory to God.

So it can be anything from singing, dancing, writing to starting a Bible study or sharing your testimony with someone else.

So I want you to think about this, what have you been doing to bring glory to God? how have you been worshipping?

Everything you do and say matters

As a Christian we need to be living so that EVERYONE can see God through us, by everything we say and do.

It’s not easy, the flesh will want to sin. But in God’s strength alone, we can over power the flesh and put God on the throne.

I pray that those that read this, will through God’s strength overcome the flesh.

There are a lot of verses telling us to be obedient to God

“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
John 14:15 NASB

Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Philippians 2:8 NASB

For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.
Romans 5:19 NASB

And many more but what exactly is obedience to God?

I believe as did the verses say that obedience to God is being there as soon as he calls you.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
James 1:5‭-‬8 NASB

This verse reminds me that it’s okay to ask God for help or wisdom, He knows that we can’t do it on our own. But God also looks at the reason for us asking, is it for His Glory or our glory?

I went to a Casting Crowns a few years ago when they came out with Thrive. They talked about how we are like a tree, we need to grow our roots in God’s word before we reach out our branches to people.

If we don’t grow our Roots in God’s word then when people start questioning us we fall over because we don’t have a good root system. And I love this analogy.

You can’t help people if you don’t know God’s word. So grow your roots in God’s word so you can reach out to people.

In the Bible we see God do stuff that foretells what is going to happen, one of those cases is in Exodus 17

Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Exodus 17:6 NASB

The rock represents Jesus getting struck once for ALL of us and our sin, the water represents Jesus’ blood poured out for ALL of us and washing away ALL of our sin.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28 NASB

It is comforting to know that no matter how hard the circumstance is that I am in, God as control and it will work together.
